An unknown but fascinating chapter of European ceramics; with a complete iconography and a dictionary of potters. Early in the 16th century some majolica potters, coming from Venice, settled down in Antwerp and established potteries that produced luxury dishes, floor and wall tiles, albarellos, etc. for more than one century. Due to the invasion of China porcelain, the Antwerp majolica potters converted into faience productions and left for Holland (Delft) where they founded new production centres.

Museum re-opening On June 8, 2003 the Abbey Museum Ten Duinen 1138 will re-open at Koksijde after having undergone a thorough renovation. Under the turkish regency period of Algeria (1518-1830) no tiles were manufactured localy, but large quantities were imported from different countries over a period of almost three centuries, for decoration of their monuments, mainly in the town of Algiers. Museum The former stoneware tile factory of Gréber at Beauvais (1911) has been fitted up as "Ecomusée des pays de l'Oise" (Oise Living Museum). This factory, covered with beautiful tiles, totally restorated and recently recognised as an historic monument, is a good example of reuse of industrial buildings. 17 rue du Pré-Martinet, 60000 Beauvais.
Museum Musée Henri Dupuis, 9 rue Henri Dupuis, 62500 Saint-Omer. "La cuisine flamande" (the flemish kitchen). The walls and the chimney of the kitchen are covered with Dutch tiles and tiles made in the northern part of France (Lille, Desvres). Several tile pictures depict saints, animals, a fruit-basket, a turkish soldier and a scissors-grinder based on a painting of David Teniers. Internet Forum "Internet forum on the study and the conservation of decorated ceramics in architecture." The purpose of this forum is to trigger a debate at the highest level between specialists in the different subject areas involved in the conservation and restoration of decorated architectural ceramics, in an attempt to cover the broadest possible geographic and cultural field. The forum is divided into five working modules, each of which will focus on one particular area of the general theme of decorated architectural ceramics.
