Under the turkish regency period of Algeria (1518-1830) no tiles were manufactured localy, but large quantities were imported from different countries over a period of almost three centuries, for decoration of their monuments, mainly in the town of Algiers. Museum The former stoneware tile factory of Gréber at Beauvais (1911) has been fitted up as "Ecomusée des pays de l'Oise" (Oise Living Museum). This factory, covered with beautiful tiles, totally restorated and recently recognised as an historic monument, is a good example of reuse of industrial buildings. 17 rue du Pré-Martinet, 60000 Beauvais.
Museum Musée Henri Dupuis, 9 rue Henri Dupuis, 62500 Saint-Omer. "La cuisine flamande" (the flemish kitchen). The walls and the chimney of the kitchen are covered with Dutch tiles and tiles made in the northern part of France (Lille, Desvres). Several tile pictures depict saints, animals, a fruit-basket, a turkish soldier and a scissors-grinder based on a painting of David Teniers. Internet Forum "Internet forum on the study and the conservation of decorated ceramics in architecture." The purpose of this forum is to trigger a debate at the highest level between specialists in the different subject areas involved in the conservation and restoration of decorated architectural ceramics, in an attempt to cover the broadest possible geographic and cultural field. The forum is divided into five working modules, each of which will focus on one particular area of the general theme of decorated architectural ceramics. Exhibition "El azulejo en el Museo. Su restauración, conservacion y montaje expositivo" (Tiles in the Museum. Their restoration, conservation and paneling for exhibition), October 25, 2001 - January 2002, in Museo Nacional de Cerámica, c/Poeta Querol 2, 46002 Valencia. Tel. +34-96-351-63.92, fax -35.12. The exhibition explains ten years of conservation of the museum's tile collection and the last improvements in material and techniques in tile paneling with light materials. The Museo Nacional de Cerámica has a collection of more than 4.400 tiles and 117 panels and pavements (composed by another 11.500 tiles); in total a tile surface of 560 m². The catalogue reviews also historical aspects from 20 relevant panels of the collection.

Restoration Musée Paul Charnoz. Usine de Carrelage Céramique de Paray-le-Monial, 32 avenue de la Gare, 71600 Paray-le-Monial (Saône-et-Loire). Museum restoration The first phase of the restoration of the former Craven Dunnill, Encaustic & Decorative Tileworks at Jackfield, is completed. Annual meeting The Vrienden van het Nederlands Tegelmuseum (Friends of the Dutch Tile Museum) have their annual meeting on Saturday 30 September, 2000 at 10.00 am in Enkhuizen. Several lectures in Dutch or German on various tile subjects, in the afternoon a visit of local faience finds shown in the city hall and a "tile walk" through the Zuiderzeemuseum.

Alejandro Artucio Urioste, Director of the Museum. More than 2400 tiles (end of 18th c. - early 20th c.) are on show : Catalan, Valencian and Andalusian tiles, French tin-glazed tiles (1000 from Desvres), European Art Nouveau tiles, Portuguese, Neapolitan and Dutch tiles, and local Uruguayan production (ca. 1840). Many cupolas and towers of churches and cathedrals in Uruguay and Argentina are covered with French tiles. These buildings and the tile collection of the museum are extensively described in two books by Arq. A.
