Opening hours 10h - 12h and 13h30 - 17h. Pottery Dupont was working in Poperinge from 1846 till 1975, but it was the successor of an age-long tradition of potters at the Burgemeester Bertenplein in the centre of the city. Thanks to remains from the workshop, several earthenware shapes, a catalogue dated 1895 and the production books of Louis Verelst-Dupont, it was possible to reconstruct the production of this important earthenware centre.

The company names of Ivora, Goedewaagen, Regina, Zuid-Holland and Zenith are still vivid in the memory of Gouda’s older inhabitants, while the new wave of residents scarcely seem to know of their existence or the heritage of the buildings in their street. Some small earthenware enterprises remain, but the heady days of international success have faded. Traces can still be found in Gouda’s museums, but even here literature in English about the exhibits is sadly lacking.

Opening hours 10h - 12h and 13h30 - 17h. Thanks to remains from the workshop, several earthenware shapes, a catalogue dated 1895 and the production books of Louis Verelst-Dupont, it was possible to reconstruct the production of this important earthenware centre.

Book VAN LEMMEN, Hans - Delftware tiles. Shire Publications Ltd, Shire Album 179, March 2005, 48pp, 97 colour ills. ISBN 0 7478 0611 X. Italian potters brought the art of making tin-glazed tiles to the Low Counties in the early 16th century. Native potters copied the technique and in the 17th century they began to manufacture the distinctive blue and white Dutch tiles. Huge quantities were produced during the 17th and 18th centuries, first in the Netherlands and later in Britain. Because the best tiles and other tin-glazed pottery came from Delft, the name of that town became associated with this ware. This book traces the history of delftware tiles, describes how they were made and explains the differences between Dutch and English delftware tiles.

An unknown but fascinating chapter of European ceramics; with a complete iconography and a dictionary of potters.
